Click into a Cursor or Claude Code prompt. Hold Right Option, speak, and let go. The words are sitting in the field, and you send them when you're ready.
That's Super Notch Type. It writes into the focused field using Phonon 2 on your Mac. Type spends no model tokens and needs no dictation subscription.
Super Notch does not replace Cursor or Claude Code. They still do the work.
You need an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 14 or newer, plus microphone and accessibility permissions. Super Notch is $20 for your first Mac and $10 for each additional Mac, one-time. Dictation is $0/mo after you buy.
What you need
- An Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or newer.
- Super Notch. $20 for your first Mac, once. $10 for each additional Mac. Not a monthly subscription.
- Microphone and accessibility permissions. macOS asks for both.
Step 1: Grant permissions to the right copy
Voice features need microphone and accessibility permissions. When macOS asks, allow both.
Grant them to the copy in /Applications/SuperNotch.app. Extra copies in dist folders or Debug builds confuse those toggles.
If Super Notch doesn't show up under Microphone, download the latest build, put it in Applications, then grant that copy. The Type help page has the details.
Step 2: Pick Phonon 2
Phonon 2 is the default English speech engine for new Super Notch setups. If you set up earlier, choose Phonon 2 in Settings → Type or Talk.
It's a one-time download. After setup, Phonon recognition runs on your Mac, so your audio stays here.
Phonon 2 is English only. Whisper is still there for other languages or translation.
Step 3: Focus the field in Cursor or Claude Code
Click into the prompt or chat field you want to fill. Type writes into whatever field has focus.
That can be a Cursor prompt, a Claude Code chat, a reply, or a document.
Step 4: Hold Right Option and speak
Hold Right Option. Speak. Let go.
When you let go, the text is there.
Step 5: Read it, then send it yourself
Type never sends anything for you. You read the words, and you send them.
This is dictation beside the agent. Cursor and Claude Code still do the work.
Does dictation use tokens?
No. Type is local speech-to-text on your Mac. It doesn't call Grok or OpenAI, so it doesn't spend model tokens.
There's no dictation subscription and no STT API key. After you buy, dictation is $0/mo.
Right Option or Right Command?
Two keys, two jobs.
Right Option is Type. It stays inside the focused field. Use it to put words in Cursor or Claude Code.
Right Command is Talk. Hold it to speak with the companion in the notch. Those answers come from the brain you chose in Settings: Grok, OpenAI, or Apple Intelligence on a supported Mac.
Talk is the notch conversation. It is not a coding agent. More on the Talk help page.
Where Super Notch sits next to Cursor and Claude Code
Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex stay the places that write and run the work. Super Notch is the notch, the HUD, and the voice surface beside them.
It also helps you get back into those tools. Super Notch finds and resumes your AI coding sessions from the notch. If you run Claude Code, see the Claude Code session manager for Mac.
If Type can't hear you after an update
Quit every Super Notch that isn't /Applications/SuperNotch.app. If Type still can't hear you, follow the reset steps on the Type help page, then toggle the permissions again.
